CANADA FALLS TO THE USA; EXTRA GAME NEEDED
Yesterday afternoon in Vancouver, it was the deciding game between Canada and the USA. Canada were the favourites going in. But they didn't play like they were the favourites as they lost by the score of 5-3. The whole game, it didn't seem like the Canadians wanted to win based on there preformance. The one thing I don't want to do is put the blame on the Goalie. But in this case I would have to say that Martin Brodeur didn't make the saves that were needed for Canada to win. In my opinion, 3 out of the 4 goals that Marty gave up was his fault. But Babcock said he's not going to chose a starting goalie for Canada's extra game against Germany until he re-watch's the game.
"We've chosen a longer route to where we want to go," said Babcock. "I thought we played real well at times. I thought Miller was excellent for them. In the end, we didn't have enough to get it done." Canada was down 4-3 with under a minute to go so they pulled the goalie. So, on one opportunity the states were able to clear it and it was a race back between Perry(of Canada) and Kesler (of Usa). Perry was infront but was able to get the puck as Kesler wrapped his stick around Perry and knocked it in the net for the empty net goal."It is probably not what we wanted coming in," said Crosby, of having to play an extra game in the qualifying round, "but that's where we are. When you get to this point in the tournament, it's not going to be easy. The fact that we have to play an extra game isn't a terrible thing. We'll be ready for it."In the loss, Staal, Getzlaf and Sidney Crosby scored for Canada.
